Project Credits
The content of the database, the sourcing, photographing of documents, translating and transcribing, together with the commentary has been the work of me, Dr Patricia Cox. I was awarded a PhD in 2014 by Warwick University on the subject of the Reformation in Cheshire and in the course of working for my PhD I became fascinated by the cause papers at Chester and began work on transcribing them.
This is a continuing project during which I aim to cover all the surviving sixteenth-century cause papers, on which I have now been working for several years.
The website and database design are by Peter Urwin of Urwin Studio, I would like to thank him for all his generous help with the project.
I would also like to thank the staff at Cheshire Archives and Local Studies for their patience and kindness in imparting their knowledge of the history and records of the county and diocese of Chester.
All images are reproduced by permission of Cheshire Archives and Local Studies and the owner/depositor to whom copyright is reserved. I are grateful to the owners of the records, represented by the Chester Diocesan Board of Finance, for permission to use and transcribe the images.
I would love to hear from anyone with comments or observations about any aspect of this website or database. Please contact me on info@chestercausepapers.org.uk
