Types of Cause: Tithes – peas
Tithes of peas were great or predial tithes as they arose from crop husbandry and so were payable to the rector or his farmer (see ‘Tithes – modus’ under ‘Subjects’).
Peas were usually measured by the cartload for valuation. They were often dried for food during the winter months.
