People: Vawdrey, Robert
Robert was a son of Robert Vawdrey of Riddings and Bank, near Timperley in Bucklow Hundred, according to Ormerod’s History of Cheshire https://archive.org/details/historyofcountyp00orme/page/414/mode/1up
Notes in Cheshire Sheaf on a 1575 case in the Chester Exchequer show that Robert Vawdrey, the father, died intestate and there followed a family dispute about the ownership of various properties, including the tithes of Bruera and the vicarage of Bowdon (Cheshire Sheaf, 3rd Series, xxi, p.37). Images of some of the papers in the Vawdreys’ suits in the Exchequer of Chester can be seen online at http://aalt.law.uh.edu/Eliz.html under ‘Cheshire Orders and Decrees’ for 1575 and 1576.
He was rector of Bowdon from 1561 and later also vicar of Over. Further details of his clerical career may be found online at CCEd (person ID 29083) https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/persons/index.jsp
